Job description

The Southern Peninsula of Cape Town is a beautiful area visited by tourists every year. But there are still poor communities in which many residents are uneducated and unemployed. At the heart of one of these communities is a primary school which, despite a shortage of funds, is dedicated to providing a good education for their pupils to give them a chance for a better future.

You will be able to gain experience with the age range you chose. We assist in creches, primary schools and high schools in Cape Town. The level of English varies and you will often find classes are conducted in English. Most children will have a basic grasp of the language but their comprehension may be low.

Mondays to Fridays will be spent assisting teachers and working one on one with the kids. You will assist during break time by keeping an eye on the children and in the afternoons you can help with homework.

There are multiple dates for the internships, with the first one for 2019 running from 10th January to 30th March.  Other internship dates for 2019 are listed below:

  • 4th April – 30th May
  • 11th July – 5th September
  • 3rd October – 28 November

Salary & benefits

You’ll have our full support from the moment you book and the orientation weekend lets you get to know your fellow interns (or should we say future friends?) Based in the seaside town of Fish Hoek, you’ll be assisting the teachers in the classroom and providing one-to-one support for the students. Although English is spoken in South Africa the ability levels vary so you’ll need to bring your A game with exciting and new teaching tools. There is no salary associated as this is a Volunteer internship.
