Job description

1) Jeollanamdo Provincial Office of Education (Public Schools)
Jeollanamdo province is in the southwest area of the country and includes smaller rural towns and cities up to 300,000 in population. Canadian Connection has been a hiring partner with the JLP for over 10 years.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00
Classroom Hours: 22 teaching hours per week, overtime a possibility
School Levels: Elementary Schools (up to grade 6 but typically only working with grade 3-6), Middle Schools (grade 7-9) and High School (grades 10-12). The majority of positions are in Elementary and Middle Schools
Salary: 2,000,000 – 2,500,000 Korean won per month + bonuses for rural placements and travel schools
Start Date: April 17th with a one week orientation in Yeosu
Locations: Placements are decided by Jeollanamdo supervisors so specific location requests aren’t guaranteed but you will be able to indicate up to 3 city and 2 county preferences in the application process.
City Placements: Mokpo, Yeosu, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Naju
County Placements: Jindo, Wando, Haenam, Gangjin, Yeongwang, Yeongam, Muan, Jangheung, Boseong, Gurye, Gokseong, Hwasun, Hampyeong, Goheung

 

2) Private Institutes (various metropolitan locations)
School preferences: English, Education majors, TESL certificate holders or applicants with prior teaching experience

Schedule: Monday to Friday
Classroom Hours: 30 teaching hours per week.
Salary: 2,100,000 – 2,400,000 Korean won per month
School Type: mainly working with kindergarten and elementary aged students
Locations: Seoul, Incheon, Daegu, Gwangju
Start Dates: monthly start dates in March, April, May


3) English Program in Korea EPIK (Public Schools)
EPIK is a department within the Korean Ministry of Education that is in charge of hiring Native English teachers for the majority of school boards throughout Korea. Due the fact that they have so many positions to fill, EPIK designates certain recruitment agencies to assist with hiring and Canadian Connection is one of the designated agencies

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00
Classroom Hours: 22 teaching hours per week, overtime a possibility
School Levels: Elementary Schools (up to grade 6 but typically only working with grade 3-6), Middle Schools (grade 7-9) and High School (grades 10-12). The majority of positions are in Elementary and Middle School
Salary: 1,800,000 – 2,500,000 Korean won per month
Start dates: February 2020 with a one week orientation
Locations: Various placements throughout the country including the locations listed below. Specific placements are decided by EPIK supervisors just before or during orientation so specific location requests aren’t guaranteed but you will be able to indicate one preference in the application process.
City Placements: Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, Daegu, Ulsan, Gwangju, Sejong, Incheon
Provincial Placements: Gyeonggi, Gangwon, North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, North Jeolla, Jeju
*2nd interview with EPIK coordinators via skype is required


4) Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education (Public Schools)
Gyeongnam is a scenic province located in the southeastern area of the country. Due to the fact that they have so many positions to fill, Gyeongnam designates certain recruitment agencies to assist with hiring and Canadian Connection is one of the designated agencies

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
Classroom Hours: 22 teaching hours per week, overtime a possibility
School Levels: Elementary Schools (up to grade 6 but typically only working with grade 3-6), Middle Schools (grade 7-9) and High School (grades 10-12). The majority of positions are in Elementary and Middle School
Salary: 2,100,000 – 2,500,000 Korean won per month
Start dates: Gyeongnam has monthly start dates as follows – March 1st, April 1st, June 1st, July 1st, September 1st, October 1st, November 1st, December 1st. There is a 2 day orientation at the beginning of each session.
Locations: Placements are decided by Gyeongnam supervisors so specific location requests aren’t guaranteed but you will be able to indicate 2 city and 2 county preferences in the application process.
City Placements: Changwon, Jinju, Yangsan, Geoje, Tongyeong, Sacheon, Miryang
County Placements: Haman, Geochang, Changnyeong, Goseong, Namhae, Hapcheon, Hadong, Hamyang, Sancheong, Uiryeong

Salary & benefits

Salary levels are based on scales that may include relevant degree majors, TEFL/teacher certification, and previous full-time teaching experience
~2,000,000 KRW – 2,500,000 KRW

All public school positions include the following benefits:

• Airfare allowance: 1.3 million KRW reimbursed for entrance and 1.3 million KRW given at the end of the contract for exit
• Settlement allowance: 300,000 KRW given within the first month of the contract
• Vacation days: 26 working days + Korean national holidays
• Housing: Provided by employer, non-shared, partial furnishings (teacher covers utilities)
• Severance: Additional one month’s salary paid for every 12 months worked
• Pension & National Health Insurance: enrollment based on a 50/50 contribution system between employer and teacher

All private institute positions include the following benefits:

• Airfare: Ticket to Korea provided or reimbursed depending on school
• Vacation days: 10 working days + Korean national holidays
• Housing: Provided by employer, non-shared, partial furnishings (teacher covers utilities)
• Severance: Additional one month’s salary paid for every 12 months worked
• Pension & National Health Insurance: enrollment based on a 50/50 contribution system between employer and teacher

Job requirements

Applicants must hold a passport from one of the following 7 countries to be eligible: Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa
*applicants from French or Afrikaans-speaking areas may be required to show proof of English education from Grade 7 onward

Other requirements:
