Job description

We are recruiting two enthusiastic and committed full time teachers. Ideally, one will be experienced in teaching groups and individual adult classes at levels from A2 to C2, including Cambridge exam preparation classes. The other will have the ability to teach, or willingness to learn to teach, young learners. Our YL teachers teach practical English skills to small groups (max 10 students) of children and teenagers.
Teachers are given help with course planning and classroom activities, and access to excellent resources. Our teaching staff have been with us an average of 5 years, testimony to both the quality of teachers we employ and the respect with which we treat them.
A standard teaching week consists of approximately 26 teaching hours (45min), taught in 45, 60 or 90 min. blocks. Timetables differ, but typically 50% of classes are taught on site and the remainder in nearby schools and companies. Split days are kept to a minimum.
Candidates should have excellent communication skills and a passion for teaching effectively as well as an openness to try new classroom activities. We conduct observations and teacher development sessions, and our staff cooperate to spread best practice.
Liberec is a small city with a population of 100 000, and is 100km north of Prague, near the borders with Poland and Germany. It lies in a valley between two mountain ranges, and is a winter sports destination. Liberec has a university and thus a large student population. Our school is located near the historical centre of the city, in relatively newly refurbished, purposely designed premises.
The school was founded in 1995 and is owned and run by teachers, for teachers and students.
We give new teachers help in finding suitable accommodation and with negotiating Czech officials. We also give new teachers an introduction to specific issues concerning teaching English to Czech students.

Qualifications

Salary & benefits

Teachers can either work as employees, or under their own business licence. The majority of teachers work under their own business licence (which the school assists teachers in attaining), and invoice between 20K and 30K Czech Crowns per month. This affords teachers a comfortable standard of living. Teachers may also work as employees, with paid holidays etc, in which case their gross monthly salary is approx. 16.5K Czech Crowns. Teachers are given assistance with all aspects of legalization and settling. However we do not pay travel costs to the Czech Republic. Teachers are also given free Czech lessons. Some of our native speakers have now settled in Czech and pay mortgages and bring up children, on the salaries they earn. Candidates should however be aware that they need to arrive with sufficient funds to support themselves until they receive their first pay check. Monthly rent can vary from 5 000,-Kc for shared accommodation to 8 500,-Kc for a single occupancy flat.

However, above all they must have the skills, strength of personality and sensitivity to gain and hold the attention of their students whether they are young learners, teenagers or adults.
