Spoken English Practice is hiring native English speakers to work as English Conversation Partners in our global English language program. As an English Conversation Partner you will be helping English learners practice and improve English speaking on Skype.
Founded in 2008, Spoken English Practice’s goal is to redefine the way English Speaking is “taught”. Our program’s philosophy is simple – the ONLY way to really be fluent in English (or any other language) is to have real conversations with native speakers. We are NOT looking for traditional ESL teachers to teach grammar theory. Our classes are 100% conversational. We want English learners to have real life conversations with native speakers. Conversations can be about anything — sports, politics, TED Talks, culture, baking, cats!
As an English Conversation Partner your job is to drive the conversation in an engaging manner and to give students feedback on how they can improve grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. You will ask a lot of open ended questions and get the student to speak (Because they need the speaking practice, not you!). During the conversation, you will give them corrections and feedback on how to improve pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary etc. All the sessions are held via Skype and are 1 on 1, private lessons.
Salary & benefits
What make this position more fun and rewarding than the typical English Teaching Job:
Diverse, interesting students – We have students over 160 countries from a wide variety of backgrounds. It is a lot more fun that teaching kids from one country.
No need to wake up at 3 AM – Since students come from multiple time zones, you can pick the hours you are most comfortable with.
No boring lesson plans or reports – Life is too short for that! Our conversation method allows teacher’s to be creative and innovative. The goal is to have “real” conversations.
Work with students who already know “some” English – Over 90% of students in our program are adults, and most are intermediate ESL students. You don’t need to do intense (and boring) grammar drills. You can talk about gun control and electric cars instead!
Get paid for cancellations and trial lessons – We don’t want you to waste time online waiting for students to show up. We have a very transparent and fair system.
You don’t need to record videos and write profiles – We are not a “teacher board” website where you have to “market” yourself with videos etc. We’ll do the marketing – We’ll send you a steady flow of new students every week.
Work with students who understand that improving English is a process – We don’t partner with shady “farm” schools and brokers who sell courses making false promises. Students who join our classes understand our process and know improving English does not happen overnight. This means teacher’s are not expected to perform miracles.
Number of hours a week
Most teachers work between 15 – 25 hours a week but depending on your availability you can get as many hours as you want.
Fully remote English teaching job
This is a 100% work from home opportunity. You don’t need to go through any complicated visa process or move to another country to work as an English Conversation partner!
Transparent and reputable program
We have a very transparent and straightforward compensation plan where the teacher will get paid whether it is a trial lesson or a last minute cancellation by the student. There will be no setup fees, Paypal fees, currency exchange fees, or holds.
The English Conversation Partner position at Spoken English Practice has been featured in many media publications such as the Forbes as an example of high-quality remote work.
