Job description
We are looking for English speakers (US, UK, CAN, SA, NZ, AUS citizens) to join our company as English Coaches / Mentors.
We work with adults who speak English as a second language. They have management and corporate experience, so they are looking to speak to a different type of “teacher” – someone who has an academic or industry background that is similar to theirs.
This role is part-time but it can develop into full-time depending on your availability and ability to retain clients:
- Coaches are partnered with clients based on the client’s preferences.
- Flexible times as an independent contractor.
- Peak work hours are between 6pm and 12pm Korean / Japanese time, although other hours are also available. We don’t schedule surprise meetings or require you to wait at your computer in case someone logs on.
- NZD30 to NZD37.50 (approx USD 18- 24) per session (50 min session + prep) depending on experience.
- There can be a gap between hiring and being partnered with your first client. We retain an eligible pool of vetted coaches for clients to choose from.
What does a Coaching Session involve?
Practically, the work involves teaching skills, language (rephrasing, helping with tense, plurals etc if necessary) and life coaching. You meet with the same client regularly and, ideally, you should form a long-term working relationship with them.
There is no set curriculum to teach, so it is very stimulating for the coach and student. You are required to give feedback and mentor your clients in a longer term fulfilling relationship.
This role most suits a person who enjoys explaining patiently and who listens carefully. For example, a good coach encourages the client to speak for about 70% of the time so they can offer feedback. You should also enjoy learning about foreign cultures and sharing about your own daily experiences.
You will need to type quite a lot during the session. You need to type key phrases / sentences to show clients how/where they made a mistake while speaking and fill in the feedback forms. Coaches who don’t maintain a high standard usually lose clients and our company offers most of the new clients first to coaches with high retention rates.
Ongoing training and troubleshooting is provided.
How to apply:
1) Submit your application with supporting documents;
2) After hearing from us, we will send you instructions about how to submit a short video interview. You will also need to take the 5 minute speed typing test (This test is free) from typing.com and send us a screenshot of your results. (No need to pay for the certificate)
3) Meet with our company representative for a final interview;

What does this mean?
Strict visa regulations in particular countries can mean teachers must hold a passport from certain countries. Unfortunately, this restricts who schools can hire and may make you ineligible if you apply for the position. This information is indicative and you can still apply for the position but we recommend that you look into whether you can obtain a visa for the position first.
Don’t give up! There are job opportunities in other teaching destinations overseas.
